Spring 2026 Club Rush

Moorpark College every fall/spring semester puts on a club rush for students to promote the on campus clubs, and join them! I am treasurer of the Art and Mental Health Club and president of the Girls Who Code College Loop of MC.

Preperation

The day before the club rush itself, the Girls Who Code Club was officially chartered at Moorpark College. We had already gotten a spot on the map because I applied before we were chartered. Right after the meeting, I messaged my team with enthusiasm that “we are chartered, and at club rush trmw!”

The morning of, I stopped by Dollar Tree and spent 5$; two poster boards for a dollar, and some candy. I brought markers to decorate the posters and a platter for the candy. I got to the stall, and set out some things onto the table. I brought some textbooks to show the types of resources we could provide for club members, and set them up in a stack on the side. I made the poster, and ASMC (the student body) helped me tape it up.

Something I’ve noticed is if signups are easy, people are more likely to signup. So, I had a signup sheet out on the table, and later we had the QR code, if people prefer a digital submission.

Girls Who Code Table

I was handeling the Girls Who Code Table for the entirety of the first day, and half of the second day. It was interesting hearing the range of skill levels, majors, and interests that were curious about joining the club; we had performing arts-related majors and business as well. While the rain certainly slowed the amount of traffic the event recieved, overall the day ended sunny and warm.

On the other side of me, or behind me, was the AMHC table. I am treasurer for that club, so I went back and forth for helping. They were having a doodle booth, and so whenever I wasn’t promoting Girls Who Code, I was drawing for the doodle booth! If you don’t know what a doodle booth is, an artist will draw/doodle the person like a photo booth and give them the photo. While I could not help very much with preparations, I am glad to have helped with running the table/booth itself.

Clubs I Joined

I joined the AI club, and the web development club. I am already in the CS club and CKI (volunteer) as a member. Even though I am studying data science, I find it useful to still understand web development, and have skills within that industry. The AI club was relatively vague as to their activites, but if it allows me to understand machine learning better and allows me to work with models myself, I’m all for it.

Final Thoughts

This was a wonderful opportunity to practice communication, promotion, and time management, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for these clubs.
